Lead Automation Engineer (QA Automation)

Location: San Francisco, United States; hybrid work model with required in-office attendance on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Remote placement will not be considered. Local hours (PT) are required, with flexibility across time zones when necessary.

Target base salary: $160,000–$185,000 annually, plus potential equity and annual bonus.

What you will do

• Own and deliver test automation scripts for core revenue-generating product features.
• Develop and evolve test automation frameworks and testing strategies in collaboration with platform engineering.
• Advance testing methodologies toward a CI/CD model to improve delivery speed and product quality.
• Review code and designs for features delivered by other engineers within scrum teams.
• Coordinate bug tracking, test prioritization, automation, and release activities with scrum teams and functional partners.
• Use AI tools to improve delivery outcomes and demonstrate effective applications to QA peers.

Requirements

• 7+ years of test automation or quality engineering experience and a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Experience leading medium- to large-scale projects and mentoring QA Engineers.
• Hands-on automation development with Java and JavaScript using UIRunner, Playwright, or similar tools.
• Experience with CI/CD methodologies and tools such as Jenkins, plus web services and API testing.
• Knowledge of test engineering tools, databases, cloud technologies, test design, debugging, profiling, and software development workflows.
• Clear technical communication and experience coordinating cross-team efforts; hands-on use of AI tools is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Appium or Detox.
• Experience with AWS.
