Head of Legal and Compliance (Healthcare)

Location: Remote, with active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction required

Base salary: $205,000–$225,000 per year, plus healthcare coverage, paid time off, stock options, and other benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the legal operating model, including matter intake, budgeting, billing guidelines, preferred counsel, alternative fee arrangements, and reductions in outside legal spend.
• Own strategy and negotiations for district, health-plan, payer, partnership, and material vendor agreements.
• Advise on telehealth, provider licensure, scope of practice, prescribing, corporate-practice-of-medicine issues, and clinical versus administrative decision-making.
• Maintain the multi-entity MSO/PC structure, governance records, intercompany arrangements, foreign qualifications, and entity map.
• Lead the enterprise compliance program, including policies, training, monitoring, investigations, corrective actions, Compliance Committee work, and Board reporting.
• Oversee privacy, security, data governance, employment matters, enterprise risk, investigations, and specialized outside counsel engagements.

Requirements

• JD from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• Approximately 6–10+ years of progressively responsible legal experience, including meaningful in-house work in healthcare or a closely related regulated industry.
• Strong healthcare regulation and compliance experience, including HIPAA, healthcare privacy and security, Medicaid billing integrity, fraud, waste and abuse controls, OIG frameworks, training, monitoring, investigations, and Board reporting.
• Strong commercial contract drafting and negotiation skills, with experience advising on sensitive employment and workforce matters.
• Experience with MSO and professional-entity operations, PC governance, intercompany arrangements, multi-state qualifications, or corporate-practice-of-medicine issues is strongly preferred.
• Ability to communicate independently with clinical and business leaders, senior management, and the Board.

Nice to have

• Experience with virtual care, behavioral health, pediatric care, managed care, school-based healthcare, or multi-state provider operations.
• FERPA or student-data privacy experience.
• Experience managing financing, M&A, complex litigation, government investigations, malpractice, intellectual property, tax, or state-specific regulatory matters.
