Specialist, Program Underwriting - Alternative Ventures

Location: Remote within any of the lower 48 U.S. states; local and overnight travel may be required for client meetings.

Salary: $92,000–$171,000 annually; expected starting salary range: $92,000–$138,000.

What you will do

• Review complex program underwriting referrals, including shared and layered property, general liability, excess, auto, marine, energy, environmental, inland marine, warranty, and workers compensation risks.
• Evaluate pricing, coverage, terms, conditions, profitability, and acceptability against underwriting guidelines, with authority to approve account-specific referrals.
• Research, develop, and present new programs, underwriting forms, manuals, rate filings, and guideline modifications.
• Collaborate with program managers, brokers, business liaisons, managing general agents, and reinsurers on submissions, program integration, market trends, and reinsurance placement.
• Participate in underwriting audits, prepare data reports, and identify new program business opportunities.
• Provide technical assistance, training, and mentoring to underwriting and support staff.

Requirements

• Undergraduate studies in finance, accounting, economics, and/or risk management; a degree is preferred.
• Typically three or more years of related experience as a professional, financial, and/or specialty lines underwriter.
• Knowledge of professional, financial, and/or specialty lines underwriting policies, insurance law, underwriting practices, and marketing principles.
• Working knowledge of financial documents, financial analysis, investments, and market conditions.
• Strong communication, negotiation, analytical, decision-making, and relationship-building skills.
• Must be able to work within the lower 48 U.S. states and travel locally or overnight as needed.
