Underwriting Trainee

Location: Hybrid schedule in Richfield, Ohio, USA; on-site four days per week and remote one day per week. Core in-office days are Tuesday–Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs.

Commercial transportation insurance provider specializing in risk financing, product design, loss control, claims services, and alternative risk transfer programs across all 50 states.

What you will do

• Learn to evaluate and underwrite new and renewal business according to underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
• Analyze risk information to support coverage, pricing, and terms decisions.
• Order and review motor vehicle, loss history, inspection, and other reports.
• Document underwriting decisions in compliance with state and federal insurance regulations.
• Collaborate with actuaries, agents, brokers, clients, and internal teams to clarify information and communicate decisions.
• Develop knowledge of industry trends, regulatory changes, market conditions, and insurance products.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, risk management and insurance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Participation in a formal training program lasting approximately six months to one year.
• Basic analytical, risk assessment, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to use data to analyze situations, identify problems, and develop effective solutions.
• Ability to develop knowledge of company policies, industry laws, and regulations.
