Safety Specialist (Data Center)

Location: United States (Remote); 50–70% travel required.

What you will do

• Administer and maintain the Field Service Safety Program, operating procedures, safety forms, and equipment-specific energy control procedures.
• Review energized electrical, confined-space, elevated-work, refrigerant, and pre-task permits before work begins.
• Conduct documented field inspections and audits covering lockout/tagout, electrical safety, refrigerant work, PPE, equipment condition, and host-site requirements.
• Deliver or coordinate safety orientations and maintain qualification records for employees, subcontractors, and temporary labor.
• Investigate injuries, illnesses, near hits, and reportable refrigerant releases; lead root-cause analysis and track corrective actions to closure.
• Act as the safety liaison for general contractors, customer facility operations, OSHA, EPA, and regulatory inspectors, including stop-work escalation when imminent hazards exist.

Requirements

• Five or more years of hands-on environmental, health, and safety experience in mechanical construction, HVAC service, industrial refrigeration, electrical contracting, or mission-critical facilities.
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification; OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification required within 12 months of hire.
• Working knowledge of lockout/tagout, group and multi-employer isolation, NFPA 70E, arc-flash risk assessment, permit-required confined-space entry, and fall-protection and rescue planning.
• Experience with incident investigation, root-cause analysis, OSHA recordkeeping, and environmental compliance.
• Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain it within 60 days; EPA Section 608 Type II certification within 12 months and Universal certification within 24 months.
• Valid driver’s license, acceptable motor vehicle record, ability to obtain construction-site and data-center access credentials, and ability to wear PPE, climb ladders, enter confined spaces, and respond outside normal business hours.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or engineering.
• CSP, ASP, GSP, CHST, or OHST certification or active candidacy.
• Experience with data center commissioning, critical facilities service, permit-to-work systems, and method-of-procedure execution.
• Experience with A2L refrigerants, centrifugal chillers, CO2 transcritical systems, UPS battery systems, or DC arc-flash assessment.
• Experience building a safety function from an existing written program without established HR infrastructure.
