TL;DR
Lead Systems Engineer (VTVL): Developing, integrating, and testing propulsion systems and vertical takeoff and landing vehicles with an accent on system requirements, technical design, fault management, interfaces, and verification planning. Focus on leading full life-cycle hardware and software development, resolving technical risks, and supporting component and vehicle test campaigns.

Location: Onsite in Mojave, California, United States. Applicants must be U.S. Persons under ITAR and EAR requirements and must be eligible to obtain required export authorizations.

Base salary: $100,000–$150,000 USD annually, excluding benefits and bonuses.

What you will do

  • Lead technical design, development, integration, and testing for propulsion systems and VTVL vehicles.
  • Define and manage concepts of operations, mission and system requirements, configurations, technical budgets, and trade studies.
  • Develop fault-management, interface-control, verification and validation, and test-planning products.
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, presentations, and demonstrations across concept and engineering development phases.
  • Support technical proposals for mission and technology development opportunities.
  • Work with engineering partners and customers to resolve system and requirements-related technical risks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field and at least five years of relevant space mission experience, including leadership experience.
  • Experience in multiple relevant areas, including liquid propellant rocket systems, propulsion, avionics or electronics, software, embedded systems, systems engineering, integration and test, verification and validation, or configuration management.
  • Experience serving as a technical lead across the full life cycle of design, development, manufacturing, testing, and operations.
  • Hands-on hardware experience is required.
  • Must be a U.S. Person and eligible to obtain required export authorizations under ITAR and EAR.

Nice to have

  • Experience developing liquid propellant rocket propulsion systems from feasibility studies through flight and mission operations.
  • Knowledge of propulsion manufacturing, V&V planning, reliability engineering, range safety compliance, or relevant aerospace regulations and standards.
  • Experience in AS9100 or ISO9000 environments and familiarity with Agile tools such as Confluence, Jira, or Jama.
