Mechanical Engineer 2 (NSSS Appurtenance Design)

Location: United States; remote work is available within the contiguous United States. Employees living within 30 miles of a current NuScale office must work onsite 4 days per week; remote employees must travel as required for business needs.

Target pay range: $87,107–$105,129 annually. Full pay range: $78,096–$122,149 annually.

What you will do

• Develop and review drawings, specifications, reports, calculations, and scopes of work for NSSS mechanical components.
• Support the design of valves, control rod drive mechanisms, pressurizer heaters, electrical and instrument penetration assemblies, and Passive Autocatalytic Recombiners.
• Perform and check engineering evaluations in accordance with company procedures and sound engineering judgment.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve technical and design problems.
• Support proof-of-concept and qualification testing, component design specifications, and process improvements.
• Collaborate with Licensing on domestic and international regulatory efforts and licensing scope.

Requirements

• B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technology from a four-year ABET-accredited institution.
• At least 2 years of nuclear, non-nuclear, mechanical engineering, or related industry experience.
• Experience developing technical programs related to design, examination, and testing.
• Strong technical writing, communication, computer, presentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases and work effectively on multidisciplinary teams.
• Must be eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Nice to have

• Registered Engineer-in-Training certification.
• Understanding of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements.
