TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer 2 (NSSS Appurtenance Design) (Nuclear Mechanical Engineering): Designing and reviewing ASME Section III components, appurtenances, calculations, specifications, and technical deliverables for the NuScale Power Module with an accent on nuclear safety, multidisciplinary coordination, and regulatory licensing support. Focus on resolving complex mechanical design challenges, supporting proof-of-concept and qualification testing, and developing component design specifications.

Location: United States; remote work is available within the contiguous United States for employees living more than 30 miles from a NuScale office. Employees within a 30-mile radius must work onsite four days per week. Travel is required as needed for business.

Salary: $108,908–$131,441 annual target pay range; full range $97,642–$152,722 annually.

What you will do

  • Develop and review drawings, specifications, reports, calculations, and scopes of work for NSSS mechanical components and interfaces.
  • Prepare, check, and review ASME Code-related engineering deliverables and evaluations using independent engineering judgment.
  • Design and support components including valves, control rod drive mechanisms, pressurizer heaters, electrical and instrument penetration assemblies, and passive autocatalytic recombiners.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve technical and design problems.
  • Support proof-of-concept and qualification testing, component design specifications, and related process improvements.
  • Collaborate with Licensing on domestic and international regulatory efforts and licensing scope.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technology from a four-year ABET-accredited institution.
  • At least two years of nuclear, non-nuclear, mechanical engineering, or related industry experience.
  • Experience developing technical programs related to design, examination, and testing.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, computer, presentation, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases and deadlines.
  • Eligibility to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810 is required.

Nice to have

  • Registered Engineer-in-Training certification.
  • Understanding of quality assurance requirements including 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1.
