TL;DR
Electrical Engineer (Solar Engineering) (Photovoltaic): Designing and analyzing utility-scale photovoltaic electrical power systems with an accent on PV layouts, power system studies, equipment specifications, and electrical documentation. Focus on modeling short-circuit and load-flow behavior, designing grounding and collection systems, and supporting field troubleshooting and project delivery.

Location: Remote or in-office in Lakewood, Colorado; applicants must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States. Field work and 15–25% travel may be required.

Salary: $90,000–$110,000 per year

What you will do

  • Design photovoltaic electrical power systems, including string sizing, array layouts, tracker power and communications, one-line and wiring diagrams, grounding, conduit and cable routing, and balance-of-system equipment.
  • Prepare computer-based models and perform utility-scale PV power system studies, including short-circuit, load flow, relay coordination, arc flash, grounding, and harmonic analysis.
  • Review equipment data sheets, manuals, and testing reports for design approvals.
  • Prepare cost estimates, budget reports, technical studies, project schedules, and other project documentation.
  • Provide field assistance, troubleshooting, and observation reports, and verify the quality and accuracy of work by designers, drafters, and field service personnel.
  • Coordinate with integrated design teams and clients to meet project schedules, deliverables, budgets, codes, standards, and safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution; an electric power option is preferred.
  • 3–6+ years of relevant engineering or field experience.
  • Knowledge of medium- and low-voltage distribution, switchgear, motor control centers, and industrial instrumentation and controls.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and effective written, oral, interpersonal, and people skills.
  • Current authorization to work full-time in the United States is required.
  • FE or PE licensure is a plus but is not required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with EasyPower, ETAP, SKM, or CYMCAP.
  • Proficiency with PVsyst and other PV-specific software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
