Senior Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Sofia, Bulgaria — hybrid

What you will do

• Design and develop reusable Java 21 components for a cloud-native, microservices-based software platform.
• Build high-volume, low-latency applications with strong scalability, availability, and performance.
• Collaborate with technical and product experts, tech leads, and architects on system functionality and engineering standards.
• Participate in code reviews, pair programming, technical research, documentation, and knowledge exchange.
• Create unit and integration tests and support QA validation activities.
• Use DevOps tools and practices to build and deploy software, supporting deployment and production issue resolution.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience developing large-scale, complex Java applications.
• Experience in the travel industry and airline IT.
• Proficiency in server-side REST API development.
• Experience with multithreading, streaming, messaging, performance optimization, and horizontal scalability.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL technologies and modern microservices architecture.
• Knowledge of OOP, design patterns, SOLID principles, algorithmic complexity, and Java data structures.

Nice to have

• Computer Science or related university degree.
• Familiarity with Azure or another cloud platform, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Experience with AI tools, Agile development, BDD/TDD, Jenkins, Git, Jira, or Confluence.
