First Shift Data Center Operations Manager

Location: Onsite in Buffalo, NY, United States. This is a first-shift role, with a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays due to 24/7 facility operations.

Salary: $119,686–$159,547 per year, depending on geographic market, knowledge, skills, and experience. Additional compensation may include annual bonuses or incentives, equity awards, and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.

What you will do

• Manage datacenter operations engineers and maintain better than 99.999% uptime through disciplined operations and housekeeping.
• Report operational performance to the Data Center General Manager and leadership team.
• Recommend procedural and equipment changes to improve productivity, reduce costs, and meet customer and datacenter requirements.
• Train employees, support performance reviews, provide input on pay reviews, and recommend staffing actions.
• Monitor and prioritize the internal ticketing system while handling customer maintenance requests.
• Coordinate vendors and contractors, including vendor selection and contract negotiations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field; additional experience may substitute for the degree.
• 7+ years of experience as a datacenter operations technician.
• Experience meeting datacenter production and operational schedules.
• Experience indirectly leading teams or guiding less experienced resources is preferred; previous management experience is not required.
• Hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Server, Ubuntu Linux, or VMware ESX Server.
• Experience with operating system administration, PXE installations, firmware updates, storage, RAID, server hardware, network devices, cabling, DAS, and NAS arrays.
