Senior Staff Engineer (Backend/Cloud)

Location: 100% remote within the United States

Salary: $70,000–$110,000 annually

What you will do

• Provide deep technical leadership across multiple engineering teams.
• Lead the design and execution of complex, cross-cutting engineering initiatives.
• Shape system architecture and translate ambiguous requirements into well-engineered solutions.
• Collaborate with product, design, engineering, operations, and business stakeholders.
• Raise engineering standards through code reviews, design reviews, mentorship, and technical guidance.
• Drive meaningful production-ready work and influence engineering culture.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proven leadership of complex, cross-team engineering initiatives.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud platforms, or large-scale data systems.
• Strong programming skills in at least one major backend language.
• Strong system design, architecture, reliability, observability, communication, and mentorship skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with multi-year platform modernization initiatives.
• Public technical contributions such as talks, papers, or open-source software.
• Hands-on experience operating large-scale production systems.
• Experience building engineering organizations and platforms.
• Familiarity with FinOps and cost-aware engineering practices.
