What you will do

• Fit steel layouts and assemble complete structures according to blueprints and layout specifications.
• Position, align, and weld steel components using GMAW equipment, welding torches, hand tools, grinders, and arc gougers.
• Move steel parts safely with hoists, cranes, or manual methods.
• Produce complete joint penetration welds that pass visual and ultrasonic inspection.
• Inspect workpieces, measure welds with gauges, and correct defects or rework.
• Work independently with minimal supervision and train Fitter I employees.

Requirements

• Prior welding experience or welding certification, plus successful completion of the DIS-TRAN Steel Welder II test.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, read welding symbols, and use a tape measure.
• Experience producing high-quality welds across different material types and within established welding procedures.
• Ability to prepare joints and produce complete joint penetration welds according to AWS D1.1 structural steel welding code.
• GMAW experience and ability to use weld gauges are required.
• Ability to set up, maintain, and troubleshoot welding equipment; a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Nice to have

• Certifications or prior experience operating moving machinery such as cranes.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
