Chief Software Engineer (Backend)

Location: 100% remote within the United States

Salary: $100,000–$150,000 annually

What you will do

• Define enterprise architectural standards, system design principles, API governance, data architecture, and service communication patterns.
• Lead the design and implementation of scalable, fault-tolerant, multi-region distributed systems.
• Drive modernization initiatives, including microservices transformation, platform consolidation, and legacy decommissioning.
• Define enterprise-wide DevOps, CI/CD, automation, observability, monitoring, capacity planning, and resilience strategies.
• Partner with executive leadership and product management on technology roadmaps and strategic technology decisions.
• Mentor Staff and Senior Engineers and lead the resolution of critical system-level production issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• At least 10 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proven experience designing high-scale distributed systems in production.
• Advanced proficiency in Java, Go, C++, or similar backend languages.
• Deep knowledge of data modeling, system optimization, performance tuning, reliability engineering, and distributed architectures.
• Must be eligible to work remotely in the United States; new H-1B visa petitions cannot be sponsored.

Nice to have

• Public technical contributions, including papers, talks, or open-source leadership.
• Experience leading multi-year transformation programs.
• Familiarity with FinOps and large-scale cost optimization.
• Exposure to regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, or government.
• Advanced degree or equivalent industry recognition.
