API Solutions Architect (Microservices)

Location: 100% remote within the United States

What you will do

• Define microservices architecture standards, service boundaries, and decomposition strategies based on domain-driven design.
• Lead modernization of legacy monoliths into independently deployable services with clear ownership.
• Design REST, gRPC, asynchronous messaging, and event-streaming communication patterns, including API contracts, schema governance, and versioning.
• Architect resilient distributed systems using circuit breakers, retries, bulkheads, graceful degradation, outbox, saga, and CQRS patterns.
• Lead platform capabilities such as service mesh, API gateways, identity propagation, observability, CI/CD, testing, and deployment standards.
• Drive performance engineering, scalability analysis, security architecture, architecture reviews, and mentoring across multiple teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• At least 8 years of software engineering experience, including several years in architecture roles.
• Deep expertise in microservices, domain-driven design, distributed systems, API design, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous messaging.
• Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes, container orchestration, service mesh technologies, and at least one major cloud platform.
• Proficiency in Java, Go, or C# and experience operating high-traffic, latency-sensitive production systems.
• Ability to lead architecture initiatives across multiple teams and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with platform engineering and internal developer platforms.
• Familiarity with Istio, Linkerd, Envoy, or comparable service mesh technologies.
• Exposure to FinOps and cloud cost optimization at scale.
• Public speaking, open-source contributions, or published technical writing.
• Experience in regulated industries with strict compliance requirements.
