Prompt Engineer (LLM)

Location: 100% remote within the United States

Salary: $100,000–$150,000 annually

What you will do

• Define organization-wide standards, reusable patterns, and reference architectures for LLM-based applications.
• Design prompt structures, instruction templates, retrieval strategies, and agentic systems with tool use, planning, memory, and multi-step reasoning.
• Lead retrieval-augmented generation pipelines, including chunking, indexing, and reranking strategies.
• Develop evaluation frameworks, internal tooling, and libraries for prompt quality, agent reliability, and end-to-end task success.
• Establish safety guardrails, policy enforcement patterns, and red-teaming practices for LLM-powered products.
• Collaborate with model engineering and product teams, conduct technical reviews, mentor engineers and applied scientists, and optimize latency, cost, and quality.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, or a related field.
• Six or more years of software engineering experience, including significant work with LLM-based applications and products shipped to production.
• Deep familiarity with modern LLM APIs, agent frameworks, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, and vector databases.
• Experience designing evaluation pipelines for non-deterministic systems and a strong understanding of responsible AI, safety, and policy considerations.
• Strong Python skills, familiarity with modern application frameworks, and excellent written and verbal communication.
• Applicants must be U.S. citizens, Green Card holders, EAD holders, or H-1B transfer candidates.

Nice to have

• Public writing, talks, or open-source contributions related to LLM application development.
• Experience with multi-agent architectures, complex tool-use systems, and fine-tuning workflows.
• Exposure to customer support, coding assistant, or analytics agent products.
• Experience integrating LLMs into enterprise software with strict compliance requirements.
