Specialist, EHS Staff

Location: North Chicago, Illinois, USA; onsite

Salary: USD $65,500–$125,500 annually

What you will do

• Conduct risk assessments, identify workplace hazards, and recommend controls based on the hierarchy of controls.
• Provide EHS support for manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, operations, R&D, contractors, and construction activities.
• Develop, implement, maintain, and improve EHS programs covering high-hazard work, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, chemical safety, emergency response, and environmental compliance.
• Investigate injuries, illnesses, near misses, and high-potential incidents; identify root causes and track corrective actions through completion.
• Deliver EHS training, support qualification and onboarding, and strengthen employee engagement and safety culture.
• Conduct inspections and audits, support regulatory interactions, and review equipment, process, chemical, construction, and facility changes through MOC and PSSR activities.

Requirements

• High school diploma plus 10 years of relevant EHS experience; or an associate degree and Advanced Safety Specialist Certification plus at least 8 years; or a relevant bachelor’s degree plus at least 3 years of EHS experience.
• Experience implementing EHS regulations, conducting incident investigations, working with regulatory agencies, and managing cross-functional teams.
• Ability to develop practical EHS standards and policies, interpret requirements, and communicate effectively in writing, presentations, and business settings.
• Strong relationship-building, conflict-resolution, organization, delegation, follow-up, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Proficiency with email, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and databases.
