TL;DR
Clean Transportation Project Manager, Kenya (Transportation Policy): Leading the ICCT’s vehicle policy portfolio in Kenya, building stakeholder relationships, shaping transportation policy, and developing outreach and media strategies with an accent on fuel-efficiency standards, zero-emission vehicle availability, and transportation decarbonization. Focus on conducting quantitative and qualitative vehicle-emissions analyses, communicating research findings, and representing the organization independently in Kenya.

Location: Remote in Kenya, preferably based in Nairobi; other locations within Kenya may be considered. Periodic domestic and international travel may be required.

What you will do

  • Serve as the primary representative and first in-country staff member in Kenya.
  • Build and maintain relationships with government officials, agencies, NGOs, academics, industry partners, and media.
  • Help develop Kenya’s transportation policy strategy and communicate research findings to support policy development.
  • Organize stakeholder outreach, conferences, and policy discussions.
  • Write and review technical reports, policy briefings, articles, blogs, and social media content.
  • Develop outreach and media strategies and conduct analyses of technologies and operational strategies that reduce vehicle emissions.

Requirements

  • Experience with Kenyan policymaking processes and established connections within the Kenyan government, industry, and NGOs.
  • Experience engaging stakeholders, building relationships with government officials, NGOs, and media, and facilitating public policy collaboration.
  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in engineering, environmental science, environmental policy, energy and resources, transportation, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • At least 3 years of relevant stakeholder engagement and/or research experience, ideally in transportation.
  • Strong written and verbal English and Kiswahili communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving, interpersonal, strategic thinking, independent leadership, and outcome-delivery skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience developing or supporting media and communications strategies, including press outreach and working with journalists.
  • Experience conducting technical analysis and writing reports on vehicle efficiency, electric vehicle technology, and transportation decarbonization policies.
  • Proficiency with data manipulation and analysis tools.
