Building Trades Technician I (Biomedical Research)

Location: Bar Harbor, Maine, United States; onsite work with rotating on-call coverage and response to on-campus emergencies within one hour.

Pay range: $22.04–$31.96 per hour

What you will do

• Perform basic troubleshooting, installation, repair, and preventive maintenance for carpentry, masonry, painting, siding, flooring, windows, doors, drywall, furniture, commercial roofing, and minor low-voltage electrical systems.
• Work under close guidance from senior technicians and supervisors in facilities supporting data centers, live animal colonies, and sensitive research operations.
• Support project planning and coordination with contractors and engineers.
• Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to document maintenance, generate reports, and maintain checklists.
• Participate in rotating on-call coverage and respond to emergencies within one hour on a 24/7 basis.
• Travel occasionally for training and maintenance support at other sites, including nights, weekends, and holidays when required.

Requirements

• Basic knowledge of building envelope and interior systems, hazardous building materials, and related products.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving maintenance issues.
• Ability to maintain complex building systems in critical environments.
• Proficiency with CMMS applications and the ability to read engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and perform physical maintenance involving ladders, stairs, overhead areas, floor-level work, and prolonged standing.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays, and rotating on-call assignments.
