California Solar Specialist (Agrivoltaics)

Location: Fully remote, based in Sacramento, California. The role includes monthly or more frequent travel primarily within California and occasional national travel, including overnight travel 5–10 times per year.

Salary: $80,000–$85,000 per year, based on experience.

What you will do

• Lead California Smart Solar and agrivoltaics work, moving research, demonstrations, and policy development toward on-the-ground adoption.
• Develop technical assistance models, research agendas, feasibility analyses, case studies, farmer-facing resources, and the California Smart Solar and Agrivoltaics Roadmap.
• Design and analyze farmer surveys, coordinate site visits and webinars, and develop train-the-trainer programs for service providers.
• Build relationships with farmers, ranchers, researchers, solar developers, agencies, funders, policymakers, and agricultural organizations.
• Convene the California Agrivoltaics Working Group, stakeholder roundtables, and statewide agriculture–clean energy forums.
• Lead policy analysis, data management, funding support, contractor coordination, reporting, and technical communications.

Requirements

• At least six years of progressive experience in agriculture, solar, agronomy, conservation, environmental management, natural resource planning, or a related field, with a BA/BS, relevant graduate degree, or qualifying direct experience.
• Direct expertise in agrivoltaics, agriculturally compatible solar, or a closely related agricultural, energy, land-use, or conservation discipline.
• Senior-level subject matter expertise, independent problem-solving, sound decision-making, and the ability to synthesize complex technical, agronomic, energy, and policy information.
• Strong communication, writing, editing, public speaking, facilitation, relationship-building, and farmer-focused training skills.
• Experience with research, survey design, literature review, economic and agronomic data analysis, technical resources, project coordination, and contractor or vendor management.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, and collaborative Word editing; familiarity with WordPress, Canva, Adobe, Salsa, and social media platforms is beneficial.

Nice to have

• Relevant work experience and knowledge of farming, agriculture, and energy development in California and the western United States.
• Experience leading complex projects, initiatives, coalitions, and multi-stakeholder partnerships.
• Familiarity with AI support tools such as Claude and Copilot.
