Solar/BESS Operations Engineer

Location: Hybrid in Scottsdale, Arizona, United States; flexible work hours may be required, with up to 20% travel.

Salary: $79,000–$100,000 USD annually, plus eligibility for an annual cash bonus based on personal and company performance.

What you will do

• Provide engineering and technical support for the operating solar and BESS fleet.
• Recommend and implement solutions to improve equipment reliability, performance, and cost-effective operation.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for solar modules, inverters, and battery energy storage systems.
• Develop and update engineering specifications and operational procedures using lessons learned from operating plants.
• Support project construction, acquisitions, operational readiness, BESS capacity testing, warranties, and insurance claims.
• Evaluate equipment obsolescence, repowering, augmentation, and complex renewable-energy equipment problems; support training for site personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering related to energy systems or technology.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years with data historians and performance-monitoring tools.
• Advanced knowledge of battery operation and maintenance, plus experience with electrical power generation, operation, and maintenance.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues, implement detailed solutions, manage small projects, and mentor less experienced technicians.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, technical manuals, and test reports, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• No visa sponsorship or employment-authorization sponsorship is available now or in the future.

Nice to have

• Experience in energy-systems design, power distribution, renewable energy, or a related industry.
• Knowledge of relay coordination, protection, and grounding schemes.
• Experience with power plant controllers for AC- or DC-coupled ESS and PV systems.
• Knowledge of UL1703, UL1741, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 68, NFPA 69, NFPA 70, NFPA 72, and NFPA 855.
