Senior Staff Mechanical Design Engineer - Precision Automation Machine Design

Location: Teparuk, Thailand. The role requires collaboration across global time zones, including periodic evening meetings with U.S.-based design and engineering partners.

What you will do

• Architect next-generation slider-attach and adhesive-dispense processes for HGA manufacturing.
• Lead early-stage process invention, machine design, control-system development, feasibility studies, prototyping, and concept selection.
• Develop physics-based understanding of adhesive behavior, slider-attach mechanics, bondline control, wetting, curing, and thermomechanical interactions.
• Identify critical KPIVs and their relationships to KPOVs and CTQs using transfer functions, interaction maps, and process limits.
• Define dispense, placement, curing, automation, vision-alignment, and process-control tool concepts for scalable implementation.
• Partner with HGA/TGA design, product, materials, and integration teams to influence architecture and reduce process risk.

Requirements

• 12+ years of hands-on experience designing and developing micro-precision assembly equipment.
• Experience with multi-axis motion systems and integrated sensor technologies.
• Background in process development, materials, manufacturing engineering, or precision assembly.
• Familiarity with mechanical behavior, materials interaction, reliability, data analysis, statistics, DOE, or Six Sigma concepts.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Good written and spoken English is required for work with global teams.

Nice to have

• Hard disk drive manufacturing or precision assembly experience.
• Experience with adhesives, dispense processes, or cleaning technologies.
• Experience using finite element analysis to guide concept development and technology de-risking.
