Focus on designing processing windows, solving production defects through root-cause analysis, improving yield and throughput, and transferring laboratory processes to commercial manufacturing lines.
Location: Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, United States. Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities.

What you will do
- Develop, optimize, and scale sintered NdFeB magnet manufacturing processes.
- Refine strip casting, hydrogen decrepitation, jet milling, powder pressing, alignment, sintering, and heat-treatment steps.
- Develop vacuum sintering profiles and thermal cycles to improve microstructure and magnetic performance.
- Design experiments to improve magnetic performance, throughput, yield, and cost.
- Conduct root-cause failure analysis and eliminate processing defects.
- Scale validated processes from laboratory and pilot equipment to commercial production lines in collaboration with production and equipment engineering teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Physics, or Process Engineering.
- 3+ years of direct experience in process engineering or an industrial R&D environment.
- Practical knowledge of powder metallurgy, vacuum thermal processing, and metal powder pressing.
- Hands-on experience operating, troubleshooting, or optimizing industrial processing equipment.
- Proficiency with hysteresisgraph and pulsed field magnetometry systems, SEM/EDS, XRD, and particle size analyzers.
- Experience applying DOE, Six Sigma methodologies, and statistical tools such as Python or JMP for data analysis.
Nice to have
- Experience manufacturing or designing sintered NdFeB magnets.
- Experience with inert gas handling, oxygen-controlled environments, and powder oxidation prevention.
- Experience with automated material handling or pressing-tooling design for high-volume magnet manufacturing.
