TL;DR
Principal Engineer – Oxide Semiconductor Materials (Thin-Film Materials Research): Conducting experimental and computational research to develop novel thin-film materials for emerging storage, memory, spintronic, superconducting, and alternative computing technologies with an accent on ultra-high-vacuum deposition, materials characterization, and nanoscale device integration. Focus on designing materials, analyzing structural, electronic, chemical, and magnetic properties, and translating characterization results into device research.

Location: Onsite at the San Jose Great Oaks Headquarters in San Jose, California, United States

Salary: $157,700–$210,300 per year

What you will do

  • Conduct hands-on experimental research on thin-film materials for emerging technologies.
  • Grow thin films using physical vapor deposition and ultra-high-vacuum deposition equipment.
  • Characterize structural, electronic, chemical, and magnetic film properties.
  • Design materials for integration into nanoscale devices.
  • Collect, analyze, present, and report film and device characterization data and conclusions.
  • Collaborate with engineers and support staff within a research team.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in materials science and engineering, physics, electrical engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Expertise with materials and devices related to oxide semiconductors, non-volatile memory, spintronics, superconductors, or alternative computing.
  • Strong hands-on experience with ultra-high-vacuum film deposition equipment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with film characterization techniques and instrumentation, including XRD, XPS, XRF, Raman spectroscopy, magnetometry, and AFM.
  • Strong knowledge of nanofabrication and general device design and operation.
  • Ability to self-direct research projects and communicate effectively while working independently and collaboratively.
