Senior Software Engineer (Payments)

Location: US remote eligible; must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. Occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be required by agreement with the manager.

Salary: $196,000–$227,000 USD per year, with potential bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

What you will do

• Design and build scalable, highly available services for the Airbnb Payments platform.
• Architect and implement complex payment features using data-driven decision-making and performance optimization.
• Lead multi-team technical initiatives, refine engineering requirements, and identify opportunities for business impact.
• Improve engineering processes, technical foundations, development efficiency, operational excellence, and system quality.
• Conduct technical design and code reviews while collaborating with product, data science, operations, and engineering teams.
• Mentor junior engineers through design reviews, code walkthroughs, and knowledge-sharing sessions.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
• Experience leading the design, implementation, and deployment of one or more high-scale, cross-functional payment systems.
• Hands-on technical leadership experience, including setting technical direction, leading project teams, and mentoring engineers.
• Experience defining product or technical strategy and aligning cross-functional leaders and stakeholders.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across teams, departments, and leadership.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• 1+ year of relevant industry experience in payments or fintech as a backend software engineer.
