TL;DR

Senior Software Engineer (Backend): Building and evolving large-scale distributed systems for financial platforms with an accent on performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability. Location: Must be based in Menlo Park, CA or New York, NY with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.

Salary: $196,000–$230,000 USD (Zone 1)

What you will do

  • Build and evolve scalable backend systems balancing performance and reliability.
  • Design, implement, and release product-facing features with strict correctness requirements.
  • Partner with frontend and data teams to define and refine REST APIs serving millions of users.
  • Lead large, technically complex projects from initial design through execution.
  • Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and hands-on technical guidance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system performance and operational risk management.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience.
  • 3+ years of experience building low-latency, large-scale distributed systems in production.
  • Proven experience designing highly concurrent systems and well-structured REST APIs.
  • Demonstrated ownership of large projects with sustained impact.
  • Strong technical judgment and ability to prioritize work aligned with business goals.
  • Ability to break down complex problems into practical, high-quality solutions.
