TL;DR
Manufacturing Engineering Intern (HTS Magnets): Supporting the design, prototyping, commissioning, and testing of custom manufacturing tooling and equipment for HTS magnet assembly with an accent on manufacturing documentation, hardware procurement, and production quality. Focus on incorporating testing lessons into future designs, managing BOMs and inventory, and tracking production metrics and program milestones.

Location: Kearny, New Jersey, United States; on-site

What you will do

  • Generate and update manufacturing documentation, including SOPs, work instructions, and quality criteria for HTS magnet assembly.
  • Support the design, prototyping, and commissioning of custom tooling, fixtures, test equipment, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Collaborate with magnet designers, test engineers, and manufacturing engineers to apply lessons learned from testing and shop-floor activities to future designs.
  • Manage virtual and physical inventory, organize assembly areas, and update manufacturing BOMs.
  • Support hardware procurement by evaluating vendor specifications and checking incoming parts against quality standards.
  • Track production metrics, test results, and progress against critical program milestones.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials science, or a related technical field.
  • Understand engineering drawings and spatial mechanics; exposure to GD&T is a plus.
  • Have hands-on experience designing, building, and testing mechanical or electrical hardware through projects such as Formula SAE, rocketry, or robotics.
  • Familiarity with LabVIEW, Python, National Instruments equipment, thermocouples, voltage taps, CAD software such as SolidWorks or NX, and test-control hardware.
  • Experience with fabrication or assembly processes including machining, hand tools, manual mills, CNC, fastened or bonded assemblies, and soldering.
  • Must be able to work on-site in an industrial facility and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
