Equipment Specialist (Manufacturing)

Location: Somerville, Massachusetts, United States; on-site

What you will do

• Develop and implement continuous improvement projects to reduce build hours, defects, and equipment downtime.
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineers, equipment engineers, and technicians to develop and qualify manufacturing techniques and processes.
• Document, troubleshoot, and resolve manufacturing system downtime, nonconformances, and production blockers.
• Design, build, and commission electromechanical equipment and tooling for process and efficiency improvements.
• Perform R&D and prototype hardware builds using precision tools, CAD, 3D printing, and machined components.
• Identify robot travel issues, safely reposition robots, make minor path adjustments, and determine root causes of equipment failures.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience with technical skills including mechanical and electrical assembly, plus at least 2 years in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience using hand tools and troubleshooting electromechanical systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and Visio.
• Exposure to 2D or 3D CAD software and the ability to create and monitor team performance metrics.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and perform extended periods of typing, standing, stooping, and sitting.
• Commitment to safety when working around heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics; willingness to work occasional nights, weekends, or on-call shifts.

Nice to have

• Associate degree or higher in an engineering-related field.
• Experience with lean manufacturing, 5S, Six Sigma, manufacturing equipment development, or electromechanical system design and maintenance.
• Ability to read and redline electrical drawings, schematics, and troubleshoot PLC inputs, outputs, and sensors.
• Understanding of wiring practices and basic programming logic.
