TL;DR

Location: San Diego, CA; in-office. U.S. persons only due to export control requirements, including U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, and individuals with asylee or refugee status. Candidates must be independently authorized to work in the United States.

Salary: $71,000–$90,000 per year, plus stock options, 401(k) matching, and other benefits.

What you will do

  • Design mechanical parts, assemblies, fixtures, tooling, and jigs in CAD with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Review, detail, and manage the configuration of CAD models.
  • Support project timelines, production planning, and process improvements.
  • Source parts and coordinate with suppliers, vendors, and external fabricators.
  • Maintain vehicle BOMs and evaluate production and procurement options.
  • Assemble and inspect incoming parts, and test new and existing vessel components.

Requirements

  • 0–2 years of experience with mechanical parts in a team environment, including internships, co-ops, school projects, or professional work.
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks and a foundational understanding of mechanical engineering, structures, assembly, DFM trade-offs, and fabrication methods.
  • Exposure to manufacturing processes such as CNC milling, 3D printing, and waterjet cutting.
  • Basic understanding of GD&T, with an interest in creating supplier drawings.
  • Strong communication, organization, attention to detail, and willingness to work with external vendors and fabricators.
  • Must qualify as a U.S. person and be independently authorized to work in the United States; employment visa sponsorship is unavailable.

Nice to have

  • Experience in startups, competitions such as FSAE or Baja SAE, robotics teams, or other tight-timeline environments.
  • Interest or experience in the maritime space.
  • Basic understanding of electrical and software requirements for electromechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of naval architecture, composites, autonomous systems, combustion engines, or hybrid power systems.
