Senior Mechanical Engineer, Life Support Systems

Salary: $112,300–$195,550 USD per year, depending on level and qualifications.

What you will do

• Own the design and development of environmental and thermal control systems for artificial-gravity space stations, from design trades through validation.
• Iterate on manufacturing processes and development testing for spaceflight hardware.
• Manage project delivery from early design through production, launch, and orbit insertion.
• Perform systems engineering activities and fluid analyses.
• Lead internal and external design reviews with suppliers and customers.
• Coordinate integration with avionics, software, mission operations, and other interdisciplinary stakeholders while ensuring manufacturability and reliability.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or science.
• At least 2 years of experience with fluid or environmental control systems or components.
• At least 3 years of hands-on hardware fabrication, assembly, and/or testing experience.
• Must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing under U.S. export-control regulations.
• Ability to collaborate with technicians, engineers, managers, suppliers, and customers in a high-pressure environment.
• Strong organizational, written, oral communication, prioritization, and execution skills.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in engineering.
• Failure analysis, root-cause investigation, and design-of-experiments experience.
• Experience with rotating machinery, soft goods, NX, GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, FEMAP, or ANSYS.
• Knowledge of machining, welding, brazing, tube bending, and other metallic and fluid-system manufacturing processes.
