Manager, Mechanical Engineering (Space Systems)

Location: Onsite in Pasadena, California, United States. U.S. office roles are subject to ITAR export-control eligibility requirements.

Base salary: $142,000–$212,000 USD per year, plus potential equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead, manage, and develop mechanical engineers delivering space robotics, precision mechanisms, electromechanical assemblies, tooling, fixtures, and ground support equipment.
• Provide hands-on technical contribution through mechanical concept development, SolidWorks CAD, trade studies, analysis, design reviews, and issue resolution.
• Own mechanical development from concept through CAD, drawing release, procurement, assembly, integration, environmental testing, qualification, and delivery.
• Drive decisions on mechanical architecture, packaging, interfaces, tolerances, materials, fabrication, assembly, inspection, verification, and design risk.
• Support staffing, utilization, mentoring, performance feedback, career development, resource planning, budgets, and functional priorities.
• Identify and mitigate technical, schedule, staffing, manufacturing, and test risks across programs.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related discipline.
• 8+ years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience, including technical leadership and team support.
• Track record delivering high-reliability or spaceflight hardware from concept through design, build, integration, environmental test, qualification, and delivery.
• Strong experience with mechanical design, precision mechanisms, robotics, electromechanical assemblies, aerospace hardware, tooling, fixtures, or ground support equipment.
• Advanced SolidWorks experience, including CAD modeling, production drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, mechanical analysis, bills of material, and design documentation.
• For U.S. office work, candidates must meet applicable ITAR eligibility requirements or be eligible to obtain the required government authorizations.

Nice to have

• Experience with NASA, JPL, DoD, commercial space, or prime-contractor flight programs.
• Experience with robotic manipulators, in-space servicing, planetary robotics, or precision spacecraft mechanisms.
• Experience establishing or scaling a mechanical engineering function.
• Experience with AS9100, ISO 9001, NASA standards, configuration management, quality systems, root-cause investigations, failure analysis, or test-anomaly resolution.
