Control Plane / Portal / API Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote within San Jose, California or Austin, Texas

What you will do

• Design and build control-plane services for tenant management, quotas, metering, billing, ticketing, RBAC, customer portals, and APIs.
• Architect the global and regional control-plane split, including cross-region consistency for tenant, quota, and billing data.
• Build self-service onboarding and automation to reduce manual delivery work.
• Ensure billing and metering correctness, auditability, and operational reliability.
• Develop tooling for detection, isolation, and recovery, as well as region-aware scheduling and placement with the Compute team.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience building backend services, control planes, or web platforms; 6+ years for senior-level experience.
• Strong backend engineering skills in Go, Java, or Python, with experience in API design and distributed systems.
• Experience with multi-tenant SaaS or cloud control planes.
• Knowledge of RBAC, authentication with OAuth or OIDC, and audit systems.
• Frontend experience with React or Vue is relevant for full-stack contributors.

Nice to have

• Experience with billing or quota systems.
• Experience with multi-region platforms and distributed consistency.
