Staff Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote from Europe, with working conditions that support seamless collaboration through email, chat, and video conferencing.

What you will do

• Design, implement, test, deliver, and maintain Develocity features.
• Own ambiguous initiatives from discovery through production and validated customer impact.
• Identify scope and delivery risks early and drive mitigation across initiatives.
• Write discoveries and specifications that align input from multiple teams into coherent plans.
• Set engineering standards through code, reviews, AI usage, and dogfooding.
• Work directly with customers on product discoveries and rollouts, and participate in Develocity releases.

Requirements

• Experienced Staff Software Engineer with a record of leading complex features end-to-end and across teams.
• In-depth experience with Java or another JVM language; the codebase is primarily Java.
• Effective use of AI to ship quality software at high velocity.
• Strong experience delivering testable, evolvable, and scalable backend architectures to production.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Self-management, initiative, sound judgment, and excellent organizational skills.

Nice to have

• Experience building systems where AI agents are primary consumers.
• Experience with developer tools and automated software build and delivery processes.
• Experience with AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Experience designing and scaling fault-tolerant, highly available distributed systems.
