Java Backend Engineer (AI): Building and scaling high-performance concurrent Java services, internal developer tools, and REST/gRPC APIs for an internal developer platform with an accent on Core Java, JVM performance, cloud-native systems, and developer productivity. Focus on designing automated AI-driven workflows, optimizing garbage collection and JVM behavior, and establishing reliability standards through SLAs, SLOs, and observability.
Location: Work from home 100% of the time or work from one of Technologies' global offices; Guatemala City is listed as the location.

What you will do
- Contribute to the technical roadmap for the internal developer platform, promoting open standards, Java best practices, and strong developer experience.
- Develop, scale, and maintain high-performance concurrent Java services and platform features covering CI/CD, monorepos, feature flags, experimentation, and observability.
- Design and maintain internal Java tools and REST/gRPC APIs that improve developer productivity and support the development and deployment golden path.
- Work with internal engineering customers to translate pain points into improvements in reliability, scalability, and software quality.
- Build advanced automated Java systems, including AI-driven workflows and their supporting infrastructure.
- Establish standards for reliability, JVM profiling, garbage collection optimization, benchmarking, monitoring, SLAs, and SLOs.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional backend or software development experience with deep hands-on Core Java experience in large-scale production environments.
- Strong knowledge of Java fundamentals, object-oriented design, multithreading, concurrency, JVM internals, memory management, and Maven or Gradle.
- Experience building and operating large-scale Java services on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Strong understanding of cloud-native applications, Docker, and Kubernetes architecture.
- Ability to influence technical decisions and lead complex projects, with strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
