Residential Energy Auditors (Energy Efficiency)

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina, United States; hybrid workplace with regular on-site residential audits throughout the assigned service territory

Salary: $60,000–$80,000 per year, plus potential discretionary annual bonus

What you will do

• Conduct scheduled residential energy audits in occupied homes according to BPI standards, program protocols, and health and safety requirements.
• Assess building envelopes, insulation, windows and doors, HVAC, ventilation, water heating, lighting, appliances, and other energy-consuming systems.
• Use building-science diagnostic tools such as blower doors, combustion-safety equipment, infrared cameras, and pressure diagnostics.
• Identify energy-saving opportunities, health and safety concerns, and equipment deficiencies, then develop cost-effective recommendations.
• Collect site data, measurements, photos, test results, and recommendations in program systems and mobile applications.
• Coordinate customer handoffs and contractor activities, perform post-installation inspections, and verify corrective actions.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least two years of experience in residential energy auditing, building science, weatherization, HVAC, construction, field services, quality assurance, or a related energy-efficiency environment.
• Current BPI Building Analyst Technician, Building Analyst Professional, or another relevant BPI certification; certification may be obtained during the introductory period for candidates with directly related experience.
• Working knowledge of residential construction, building-envelope performance, HVAC and water-heating systems, combustion safety, and energy-efficiency measures.
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel regularly across the assigned service territory; limited overnight travel may be required.
• Ability to work in attics, crawlspaces, basements, mechanical rooms, confined or non-climate-controlled areas, climb ladders, and safely carry diagnostic equipment.

Nice to have

• Associate or bachelor's degree in building science, construction management, environmental science, energy, engineering technology, or a related field.
• Additional BPI credentials or HERS/RESNET Rater certification.
• Experience with blower-door testing, combustion-safety testing, infrared inspections, post-installation quality inspections, or utility-sponsored energy-efficiency programs.
• Experience with Snugg Pro or comparable residential audit software.
• Spanish-English bilingual communication skills and familiarity with local housing, contractor, community-development, or energy-assistance networks.
