Engineering Manager, API Development (Java)

Location: Toronto, Canada; hybrid arrangement with 1–3 days per week onsite at Toronto-81 Bay

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and develop a Chapter of Java API developers across multiple squads and crews.
• Guide the architecture, solution design, delivery, and technical problem-solving for digital banking APIs.
• Drive the design and implementation of scalable, secure APIs for online and mobile banking platforms.
• Promote Java, Spring Boot, microservices, cloud-native solutions, integration patterns, Agile practices, and DevSecOps pipelines.
• Partner with technology and business stakeholders, communicate progress, and contribute to technology roadmaps.
• Ensure solutions meet regulatory, security, quality, and compliance standards while supporting innovation and process improvement.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in digital application development.
• Proven technical leadership and people-management experience guiding high-performing developers.
• Strong knowledge of microservices architecture, cloud-native design, integration patterns, OAuth, Java/J2EE, Spring/Spring Boot, SOAP, JSON, RESTful web services, event messaging, and API gateways.
• Experience or familiarity with Agile methodologies and cloud environments such as Kubernetes, Azure, or OCP.
• Degree or diploma in Computer Science or a related field.
• Legally eligible to work in Canada and able to hold a valid work or study permit where applicable.
