Director, Data Engineering

Location: Hybrid role in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in Canada on a full-time basis. Visa sponsorship is not available.

What you will do

• Lead the enterprise data engineering strategy and manage managers and data engineers.
• Oversee the design, development, and implementation of enterprise-scale data platforms and services.
• Deliver microservices architectures, data mesh and data fabric capabilities, AI/ML pipelines, Agentic AI and GenAI workflows, document extraction services, and business intelligence solutions.
• Define and execute the long-term data engineering roadmap with enterprise architecture, product, vendor, and technology stakeholders.
• Establish DataOps, SDLC, CI/CD, governance, security, documentation, code quality, and AI-enabled delivery standards.
• Ensure the reliability, performance, availability, incident management, and SLA compliance of North American and global data products.

Requirements

• Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline; a master’s degree is preferred.
• 8–10 years of progressive experience in data engineering, data platforms, cloud engineering, enterprise data architecture, or technology leadership, including management of managers and technical professionals.
• Deep expertise designing and scaling cloud-based data platforms with Google Cloud services including BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataproc, Cloud Data Fusion, Cloud Run, and Apigee.
• Experience with Kubernetes/GKE, microservices, enterprise APIs, serverless computing, Terraform, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD frameworks.
• Knowledge of semantic data models, Looker, Power BI, machine learning pipelines, and AI-driven solutions.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
