Engineering Manager - Software Development

Location: Hybrid work based in the downtown Toronto office, with 3 days per week onsite

What you will do

• Lead Tech Leads and software development teams through coaching, performance management, hiring, and career development.
• Set delivery goals, track team health and progress, remove blockers, and ensure commitments are met.
• Participate in analysis, technical design, code reviews, architecture decisions, and software development standards.
• Represent Engineering in cross-functional planning with Product Management, Architecture, DevOps, Support, and other engineering teams.
• Drive improvements in application performance, stability, architecture, and monolith-to-microservice modernization.
• Champion the evaluation and effective use of AI-assisted development tools across the SDLC while ensuring quality, security, and architectural standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of software development experience, 6+ years in development, and 5+ years in engineering leadership.
• 5+ years working with cloud-native or API-centric applications.
• Experience managing teams across multiple offices and time zones, with a strong preference for managing Tech Leads or managers.
• Experience with RESTful APIs, microservices, containers, Kubernetes, Terraform, Spring Boot, CI/CD, Git, and application security.
• Experience with SQL Server, NoSQL, stored procedures, database tuning, data pipelines, and AI-assisted development tools.

Nice to have

• Fluency in Spanish and English.
• Experience migrating monolithic applications to microservice or cloud-centric architectures.
• Experience designing, building, and deploying cloud and on-premise applications.
• Financial services or wealth management experience.
• Previous experience managing Tech Leads or engineering managers.
