TL;DR
Engineer I-III, Nuclear Safety Analysis (Nuclear Safety/PRA): Performing safety analyses and probabilistic risk assessments for X-energy nuclear technologies with an accent on thermal-fluid analysis, source term and radiological consequence analysis, licensing basis events, and model development. Focus on creating and validating engineering models, preparing safety basis documentation, and resolving increasingly complex technical issues with customers and regulators.

Location: Rockville, Maryland; 4-5 days in the Gaithersburg office. Standard schedule is 8:00am-5:00pm ET, Monday-Friday, with approximately 10% travel.

Salary: Level I $90,000-$115,000; Level II $100,000-$125,000; Level III $120,000-$145,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Perform safety analyses and probabilistic risk assessments in accordance with applicable industry standards and guidance.
  • Lead or support thermal-fluid analyses, process design, source term analyses, radiological consequence analyses, and licensing basis event evaluations.
  • Create, maintain, apply, and validate software models representing project designs and technologies.
  • Prepare and review calculation documents, technical reports, safety basis documents, procedures, requirements, and specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project leadership, customers, regulators, and technical working groups to resolve problems and meet project objectives.
  • Plan and monitor engineering work, manage schedules and interfaces, and communicate project progress and risks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nuclear, chemical, mechanical, or another engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Experience requirements vary by level: 0-2 years for Level I, 3 years for Level II, and 5 years for Level III.
  • Master’s or Ph.D. education may substitute for part of the required experience.
  • Increasing proficiency in interpreting, applying, and assessing engineering standards.
  • Ability to prepare accurate engineering calculations, technical documentation, and mathematical models.
  • Ability to work 4-5 days per week in the Gaithersburg, Maryland office and follow the Eastern Time schedule.
