TL;DR
Nuclear Methods Engineer (Advanced Nuclear Energy): Developing and validating nuclear methods software and simulation tools for licensing TerraPower reactors with an accent on reactor physics, fast-neutron reactor analysis, and uncertainty quantification. Focus on designing sensitivity studies, integrating computational tools, and improving models, visualization, and reporting for nuclear safety evaluations.

Location: Bellevue, Washington, United States. Relocation assistance is available. The role involves standard workplace conditions, extended sitting, and 0–10% travel.

Salary: $131,828–$171,205 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.

Company

hirify.global develops advanced nuclear energy technologies and medical isotope applications focused on safety, affordability, and environmental performance.

What you will do

  • Create formal documentation for nuclear methods software requirements, design, implementation, and testing to support reactor licensing.
  • Develop and improve software during validation and verification activities and integrate third-party programs into the simulation ecosystem.
  • Design sensitivity studies covering meshing, physics coupling, transport options, cross-section preparation, fission-product models, and spatial kinetics.
  • Build and apply methods for assessing uncertainty propagation and its impact on safety margins.
  • Train reactor designers and developers to use the design software suite.
  • Improve modeling workflows through input tools, visualization, reporting, and simulation-output analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited university.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience; an advanced degree may partially substitute for experience depending on relevance.
  • Experience with fast reactor physics and nuclear design methodologies, including criticality, flux and power distributions, fuel management, shielding, activation, control rod worth, detector response, and uncertainty analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of deterministic and stochastic particle transport, isotopic depletion, perturbation theory, nuclear data, and reactor kinetics.
  • Strong programming and computational skills, with experience integrating and automating simulation tools.
  • Applicants must satisfy U.S. Government export-control review requirements; U.S. citizenship or nationality, asylee, refugee, or lawful permanent resident status may affect eligibility.

Nice to have

  • Experience with nuclear engineering software such as DIF3D, MC2, PARTISN, MCNP, Serpent, SCALE, PARCS, APA, CASMO, DRAGON, or ARMI.
  • Python, C++, or Fortran experience, as well as software development tools including version control, profilers, debuggers, documentation builders, and packaging tools.
  • Experience interacting with the NRC under an ASME NQA-1 compliant quality-assurance environment.
  • Knowledge of numerical methods and applied mathematics, including PDEs, numerical stability, statistics, numerical analysis, and dynamics.

Culture & Benefits

  • Competitive compensation with eligibility for discretionary short-term incentive payments.
  • Medical, vision, dental, life, disability, wellness, and gender affirmation benefits.
  • 21 days of accrued paid time off and 10 paid holidays annually.
  • Parental leave, a 401(k) plan, relocation assistance, and professional and educational support.
  • Work emphasizes software best practices, code reviews, open communication, integrity, and teamwork.

Hiring process

  • Employment includes verification of education, experience, and other submitted data.
  • Export-control eligibility and authorization requirements are reviewed during the application process.
