Plant Optimization Engineer (Manufacturing)

Location: Jackson, TN, United States; onsite at a corrugated box plant. The role requires rotating through first, second, and third shifts as needed and traveling for training and work.

Salary: $83,000–$86,000 per year, plus an annual bonus based on individual contribution and company performance.

What you will do

• Complete a two-year rotational training program across Maintenance and Production departments at a corrugated box plant.
• Organize and implement moderate to large process improvements, problem-elimination initiatives, and capital or expense projects.
• Improve asset health, equipment reliability, facility operations, throughput, scrap levels, and downtime.
• Develop and implement solutions for equipment, plant, and manufacturing operations.
• Collaborate with Plant Optimization Engineers, plant leadership, machine operators, and maintenance operators.
• Complete engineering support, assigned technical training, POE conferences, and off-site training while developing a career path with a mentor or manager.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in engineering is required before starting the position.
• 0–2 years of engineering experience, including internships and co-ops, providing technical support in a manufacturing plant or industrial environment.
• Ability to work first, second, or third shift during production department rotations.
• Ability to travel as necessary and valid documents for travel by air and car.
• Self-driven approach and willingness to work hands-on in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication, listening, evaluation, problem-solving, deadline-management, and alternative-solution skills.
• Leadership experience or strong leadership skills, with the ability to lead others.
• Ability to build relationships and network with people of different experience and professional levels.
• Previous team experience or a strong understanding of open communication and information sharing between team members.

Nice to have

• At least one internship or co-op, especially in a manufacturing environment.
• Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Paper, Industrial and Systems, Manufacturing Engineering, or Engineering Technology; other engineering majors may be considered depending on experience.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, shop floor software, maintenance work order systems, or similar manufacturing systems.
• Experience with Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or Statistical Process Control (SPC).
