Patent Agent (Solar Energy)

Location: Fremont, California, USA

Salary: $100,000–$120,000 annual salary applicable in California.

What you will do

• Partner with engineers and technical leaders to identify, document, and evaluate potentially patentable inventions.
• Review outside counsel drafts of U.S. patent applications and support responses to USPTO Office Actions.
• Conduct prior-art searches, patentability analyses, freedom-to-operate reviews, competitive patent landscaping, and third-party patent analyses.
• Recommend protection strategies involving utility patents, design patents, trade secrets, and defensive publications.
• Develop patent portfolios for strategic products and technology platforms, including solar tracking and adjacent technologies.
• Coordinate domestic and international prosecution, filing decisions, portfolio records, deadlines, and matters in the online management system.

Requirements

• Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as a Patent Agent.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Civil or Structural Engineering, Physics, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
• Approximately 3+ years of patent preparation and prosecution experience.
• Experience drafting or reviewing utility patent applications and responding to USPTO Office Actions.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to communicate with engineers and inventors.
• Excellent technical writing, analytical, organizational, and deadline-management skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with solar trackers, utility-scale solar systems, power storage, power conversion, solar foundations, or installation equipment.
• Experience with IPfolio, design patents, manufactured-product portfolios, international prosecution, or competitive patent analysis.
• Experience with AI and Digital Twin modeling.
