TL;DR
Space Electrical Engineer, Systems (Aerospace): Designing, integrating, and testing avionics systems for spacecraft supporting in-space manufacturing and hypersonic reentry with an accent on electrical architecture, system verification, and mission operations. Focus on analyzing system faults, building hardware-in-the-loop testbeds, developing ground infrastructure, and resolving integrated vehicle issues.

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. Relocation support is available for new hires if needed.

Salary: $131,000–$184,000 annually, plus potential stock options.

What you will do

  • Define project scopes and initial requirements with cross-functional engineering teams, guiding designs from concept through production.
  • Develop electrical architectures, system diagrams, and budgets covering power, telemetry, channel count, size, and mass.
  • Analyze avionics architectures for faults and risks, develop mitigation plans, and support FDIR and operational workarounds.
  • Create verification plans and conduct system-level testing on flight and hardware-in-the-loop hardware.
  • Participate in mission operations as an avionics specialist or system operator, assessing system health and corrective actions.
  • Integrate spacecraft avionics, build HITL testbeds and ground infrastructure, improve test automation, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in system design, test planning, and validation.
  • Proficiency in programming and debugging with Python.
  • Experience with power supplies, modular DAQ systems, RTD and 4–20 mA devices, and general test equipment.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and qualify as a U.S. person for access to export-controlled technology under ITAR requirements.

Nice to have

  • Experience taking vehicle electrical systems from concept to operational production.
  • Experience setting up HITL testbeds, managing configuration control, and conducting system-level tests.
  • Familiarity with Unix environments and command-line utilities.
  • Experience developing test cases and equipment for vehicle operating conditions.
  • Project or program management experience, or prior avionics hardware, FPGA, electronics test, or electrical systems experience.
