Avionics Test Engineer (Aerospace): Designing, building, and commissioning test systems for avionics systems and associated electronics hardware with an accent on automated testing, modular data acquisition, and hardware-in-the-loop applications. Focus on developing component and system-level test cases, debugging test systems, and implementing interfaces for complex spacecraft systems.

Location: Onsite in Long Beach, California, United States. The role may require evening and weekend work during critical mission milestones.

Salary: $120,540–$209,520 USD per year, depending on level and qualifications.

What you will do

  • Design, build, commission, troubleshoot, and debug avionics test systems and associated electronics hardware.
  • Capture test requirements with responsible engineers and develop component- and system-level test cases.
  • Implement test cases, validate outputs with internal stakeholders, and lead avionics test-system design reviews.
  • Document test systems and support handover to test operators.
  • Architect and implement automated test frameworks for avionics systems.
  • Develop interfaces for co-simulation and Hardware-in-the-Loop applications with subject matter experts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or another hard-science field.
  • At least 2 years of post-bachelor’s experience developing and working with hardware test systems.
  • At least 1 year of experience with C++ or Python.
  • Experience operating and maintaining Linux systems with confident command-line use.
  • Experience designing and building systems with a modular DAQ ecosystem, such as NI, Weidmuller, or Beckhoff.
  • Familiarity with electrical and wiring concepts, including grounding and electrical safety; ability to lift up to 25 lb unassisted.

Nice to have

  • Experience with product testing, space-system protocols and standards, or complex systems such as spacecraft, aircraft, or autonomous vehicles.
  • Experience coordinating or supervising other engineers and developing Python applications.
  • Familiarity with Git, CMake, GNU tools, CI/CD, issue tracking, Linux kernel software and drivers, and embedded systems.
  • Knowledge of fault-tolerant and safety-critical software design, network programming, satellite communications, or telemetry systems.
  • Experience with power supplies, electronic loads, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and digital multimeters.
