TL;DR
Mechanical Hardware Engineer (Automotive Electronics): Developing and validating mechanical designs for electrical control units in next-generation software-defined vehicle architectures with an accent on castings, injection moldings, PCBA mounts, connectors, fastening, and tolerance analysis. Focus on integrating mechanical and electrical systems, leading prototyping and testing, managing validation documentation, and driving enterprise mechanical design strategy.

Location: Hybrid in Warren, Michigan; required to report to a Metro Detroit location at least three times per week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

What you will do

  • Execute mechanical design and development of electrical control units for next-generation software-defined vehicle architectures.
  • Design mechanical components including castings, injection moldings, stampings, seals, PCBA mounts, connector interfaces, and fastening systems.
  • Create 3D and 2D CAD models, perform design calculations, GD&T, and tolerance stack analysis, and lead CAD reviews.
  • Develop analysis and test plans, lead prototyping and testing, analyze results, and refine mechanical designs.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers, PCBA designers, internal stakeholders, and Tier 1 suppliers to integrate and release module hardware.
  • Own validation documentation, communicate design risks, and help develop virtualization technologies and enterprise mechanical design strategy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent engineering degree.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and engineering fundamentals in solid mechanics, material science, heat transfer, mechanism design, and manufacturing.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and communicate design progress and risks to stakeholders and customers.
  • Must be able to work in the United States and meet the hybrid Metro Detroit attendance requirement.

Nice to have

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, preferably NX and Teamcenter, 2D drawings, tolerance analysis, design for manufacturability, and assembly.
  • Hands-on experience with electronics manufacturers or mechanical design of PCBAs, computers, or automotive electronics.
  • Knowledge of thermal solutions, vibrational analysis, and structural analysis.
  • Experience with ASME Y14.5-2009 dimensioning and tolerancing standards.
