Staff NPI Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid work from one of hirify.global's U.S. offices, with attendance required at least 3 days per week. Available offices include Bozeman, Coppell, Livonia, Louisville, Mountain View, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and Seattle. International travel of 20–35% is expected, concentrated around manufacturing line bring-up.

Salary: $139,000–$247,000 per year, plus annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.

What you will do

• Shepherd hardware from concept review through low-volume manufacturing and transfer products from design to the production floor.
• Drive assembly and process readiness for complex sensor pods, vehicle integrations, electronic sensors, modules, and computers.
• Create and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, SOPs, process flows, PFMEAs, control plans, BOMs, and quality records.
• Support APQP, process and product validation, measurement system analysis, production trial runs, Run at Rate, and PPAP activities.
• Monitor yield, improve process and equipment stability, and lead Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide onsite engineering support and coordinate with design, electrical, integration, logistics, supply chain, and contract manufacturing teams, including partners in Asia.

Requirements

• At least 10 years of engineering experience in high-volume production environments.
• Experience launching hardware products, selecting manufacturing processes, and moving new technologies from R&D into high-volume manufacturing.
• Experience with optical alignment, optical interconnects, chip-to-chip coupling, FAU alignment, and optical or opto-mechanical assembly.
• Proficiency in SPC, Six Sigma, quality control, machine and process interaction analysis, and manufacturing problem solving.
• Working knowledge of GD&T, 3D CAD, and PDM/PLM systems, including Arena.
• Must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States and work from an hirify.global office at least 3 days per week. Evening conference calls with contract manufacturers in Asia are required 2–3 times per week.

Nice to have

• Consumer electronics or automotive industry experience.
• Knowledge of flip-chip packaging, multi-chip modules, hybrid bonding, optical connector assembly, or chip attach.
• Hands-on experience with packaging or bonding machines and process recipe optimization.
• Knowledge of DFX, FMEA, failure analysis, materials, adhesives, thermal and mechanical interactions, and reliability.
• Experience with yield analysis and process cycle-time reduction.
