TL;DR
Manager Environmental Ops (Environmental Compliance): Overseeing environmental compliance operations for railroad facilities and infrastructure across Southern California, Arizona, and New Mexico with an accent on regulatory permits, waste management, stormwater, spill prevention, and air quality. Focus on coordinating agencies and contractors, mitigating hazardous material releases, tracking compliance data, and managing environmental project budgets.

Location: Southwest Division covering Southern California, Arizona, and New Mexico; this is not a remote position. Frequent travel within the assigned territory is required, including approximately 50% travel and occasional nights, weekends, and holidays.

Salary: $110,430–$122,700 per year

What you will do

  • Oversee environmental compliance permits, regulations, projects, and requirements across assigned states.
  • Manage waste, wastewater, stormwater, air quality, chemical inventory, and spill prevention programs.
  • Serve as liaison with federal, state, and local environmental agencies, community representatives, tribal representatives, and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate environmental requirements, training, communications, hearings, public meetings, and system-wide environmental strategy.
  • Respond to and mitigate hazardous material releases, review site health and safety plans, and oversee environmental contractors and consultants.
  • Track compliance data in Enablon and manage project budgets, work orders, and invoices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related discipline; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • 5–7 years of environmental experience in railroad, transportation, heavy industry, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including stormwater, wastewater, drinking water, Tier II reporting, SPCC plans, hazardous waste, asbestos, and air quality.
  • Strong organizational, management, communication, and independent-working skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively on complex projects and travel within the assigned territory, including short-notice travel and work outside standard hours.

  • Professional certification such as Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist.
