Sr Principal Software Engineer (Embedded C/C++)

Location: Skaneateles, NY, United States; hybrid workplace with a minimum number of on-site days each week.

Salary: $144,000–$198,000 annually, plus potential discretionary bonuses.

What you will do

• Own the end-to-end software development lifecycle for embedded medical device products, from requirements and architecture through release and sustaining support.
• Define technical roadmaps, architecture strategies, and technology selections aligned with product goals, regulatory requirements, and maintainability.
• Identify and mitigate product-level technical risks while developing recovery and risk management plans with cross-functional partners.
• Provide technical leadership across development, verification, integration, design transfer, and field issue resolution.
• Drive quality, security-by-design, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and continuous improvement.
• Lead design reviews, mentor engineers, support hiring and technical assessments, and guide cross-functional teams using Agile SAFe practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent education and experience.
• 10+ years of experience developing embedded software for complex, regulated, safety-critical, or medical device systems.
• Strong expertise in embedded C/C++, RTOS environments such as ThreadX, Embedded Linux, kernel and driver development, networking protocols, and multithreaded systems.
• Experience designing and architecting embedded systems and delivering innovative solutions for released products.
• Demonstrated technical leadership across senior engineers, architects, and cross-functional development teams.
• Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; visa sponsorship or employment visa transfer is not available.

Nice to have

• Advanced engineering degree.
• Knowledge of medical device standards including ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 62304, IEC 60601, IEC 62366, and IEC 81001-5-1.
• Experience supporting 510(k), De Novo, PMA, or EU MDR regulatory submissions.
