Embedded Software Engineer (IoT)

Location: 100% remote within the United States

Salary: $130,000–$195,000 annually

What you will do

• Design, develop, maintain, and optimize firmware and embedded software for microcontroller- and microprocessor-based systems.
• Develop device drivers, Board Support Packages, bootloaders, hardware abstraction layers, and real-time applications.
• Build firmware supporting UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, USB, Ethernet, BLE, MQTT, and other communication interfaces.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers on board bring-up, hardware validation, system integration, and debugging.
• Optimize CPU utilization, memory footprint, power consumption, boot time, and overall system reliability.
• Implement secure boot, encryption, firmware signing, secure updates, automated validation, and production diagnostics.

Requirements

• Must be based in the United States.
• Six or more years of professional embedded software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Embedded C and Modern C++ for firmware development.
• Experience with ARM Cortex-M, ARM Cortex-A, STM32, NXP, Renesas, Texas Instruments, or Microchip platforms.
• Hands-on experience with FreeRTOS, Zephyr, ThreadX, Embedded Linux, or VxWorks, plus device drivers and low-level hardware interfaces.
• Knowledge of embedded architecture, memory management, interrupts, DMA, timers, communication protocols, debugging tools, Git, CI/CD, build systems, secure coding, and Agile Scrum.

Nice to have

• Experience with automotive, aerospace, medical devices, industrial automation, robotics, IoT, or safety standards such as AUTOSAR, MISRA, ISO 26262, IEC 61508, DO-178C, or IEC 62304.
• Experience with Yocto, Buildroot, wireless technologies, TPM, Trusted Execution Environments, FPGA integration, or hardware acceleration.
• Experience with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, GitLab CI, Python or Shell scripting, and cloud-connected IoT platforms.
• Embedded systems certifications or contributions to open-source embedded projects.
