Principal Embedded Software Engineer (Medical Devices)

hirify.global develops medical devices, embedded software, and related services for diagnosing and treating serious cardiopulmonary and respiratory conditions, including the LifeVest wearable defibrillator.

What you will do

• Design, debug, test, support, and technically supervise software features for the LifeVest system and related utilities.
• Develop technical designs and specifications and contribute to software and system architecture decisions.
• Build, test, and maintain embedded product modules, components, and subsystems.
• Manage the engineering function of complex projects, including scope, resources, schedules, and risk mitigation.
• Lead and advise a small team of engineers and coordinate with outside resources and internal departments.
• Conduct device root-cause failure analysis, future-product design studies, and sustaining engineering activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; a master’s degree is preferred.
• 20+ years of related experience and/or training, including 10+ years of C or C++ experience.
• Experience leading a small team of 3–4 engineers and making complex software design, troubleshooting, and testing decisions.
• Embedded Linux development, embedded user interface design, in-circuit emulators, and microprocessor architectures, preferably ARM.
• Unit testing, test automation, good code style practices, and familiarity with IEC medical software or other software quality standards.
• Systems engineering, electrical and mechanical design troubleshooting, and use of laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, waveform generators, multimeters, and power supplies.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in computer or electrical engineering.
• Project management and systems engineering experience.
• Medical device and handheld or wearable device experience.
• 10+ years of C++ experience.
