Engineering Manager

Location: San Francisco, California; hybrid. Office attendance is expected on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays as Anchor Days.

Salary: $255,000–$300,000 per year base salary for roles based in San Francisco, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the Web Infrastructure team through the evolution of Notion's web clients and core architecture.
• Build and manage a diverse, inclusive team of engineers and engineering managers.
• Recruit, coach, and develop engineers through regular feedback and career growth support.
• Set team strategy and facilitate planning, prioritization, sequencing, and staffing.
• Own execution and maintain a high quality bar for delivered products and systems.
• Help shape engineering practices, recruiting and onboarding strategy, and organizational planning.

Requirements

• Experience managing senior engineering teams and managers, including scaling teams.
• Experience building diverse and inclusive teams and creating collaborative, empowering, supportive, and challenging environments.
• Deep product and technology background with the ability to balance product, technology, and people considerations.
• Strong analytical thinking and the ability to address complex technical problems, evaluate trade-offs, and enable decisions.
• Comfort with ambiguity, organizational change, and learning new areas as needed.
• Empathetic and direct communication skills, especially when giving and receiving feedback.

Nice to have

• Experience managing engineering teams at startups during rapid growth and organizational change.
• Experience introducing engineering and management practices such as code review, performance reviews, and levels and ladders.
• Experience managing teams distributed across multiple offices.
• Familiarity with computing pioneers such as Ada Lovelace, Douglas Engelbart, and Alan Kay.
